SWC HANDMADE KNIVES

For over twenty years I have been making some of the worlds finest traditionally hand crafted knives and leatherwork.
The history of this family business can be traced back to the 1930's when my Grandfather John Horace Cox, (known as Jack), made knives in his engineering workshop. Many of his early knives are very rare and highly collectable, recent examples have sold for several thousand pounds at auction. Sadly many are lost in the mists of time, but im sure there is a great deal of his original work still in everyday use.
Production was disrupted during the war years except for a few commando knives made for friends and comrades in the armed forces.
A veteran of Dunkirk, Africa and Italy, Jack survived the war and resumed his knife making after being demobbed from the army.
It was in the early eighties I started to work with my Grandfather learning all there was about the art of the cutler, until i left school and started my engineering apprenticeship. In 1991 I took over from my Grandfather who at eighty eight was thinking of retiring, (he didn't retire for another three years).
In 1996 after my Grandfathers death I felt I couldn't sign J.H.C on to the blades I was making so changed the business name to my own initials S.W.C. and the story continues to this day.
